A fountain cover is beneficial to prolonging the life of your outdoor water fountain. Especially for those who live in areas with changing seasons, the freezing/thawing of water residue as well as snow built up can be harsh to the surface of your fountain as well as cause damage. For just a little additional cost, you can make sure your outdoor fountain stays protected in all kinds of weather and climates.
One particularly hearty cover I’ve found for not much cost has been the Veranda Fountain Cover. It’s a lightweight canvas construction, so unlike vinyl which can potentially crack, this fabric bends and flexes with the elements. But, its surface has been treated with a special water repellent formula to repel water and moisture combined with built in vents for slight airflow for condensation which may be trapped underneath. This way, with the air flow, those wet spots don’t fester into mold or mildew and give you an unpleasant surprise when spring comes.
Most covers I see you either throw over your outdoor fountain or some come with elastic straps to kind of secure it to your fountain, but I find these devices clumsy at best. How is the cover supposed to protect your fountain if a strong wind can blow it off? The ingenious design of this Veranda cover is an elastic hem with a cord and toggle so you can pull the string to get a close fit to the fountain at the bottom, and straps secure the cover to the base of your fountain. There’s no way a wind will take that baby off.
All in all, this is a pretty prime example of a fountain cover on the market which is affordable and durable enough. This way, you can make your fountain last a little longer.
