Water fountains are easy to care for if they are taken care of and cleaned periodically. Depending on the type of water you use in your fountain will determine how often you should clean your fountain and the types of build up you will see. If distilled water is easy to come by this is the ideal way to go. Realizing that using distilled water in your fountains is not always feasible there are some great fountain care products that will help keep your water fresh and prolong the need to clean your fountain as often. If you use distilled water you will find that it will take longer for algae to form and you should not get the mineral deposits from hard water thus probably being able to go a couple months between cleanings. If you are using tap water/hard water you will find that you may get calcium deposits (white scale) and algae forming on the edges of your water fountain and pump. - No More Algae – This is a great product for any type of water fountain and will help slow down algae growth. By using a capful once a week you can control algae growth and green water. No More Algae is in the liquid form and is harmful if digested so it should not be used if children or pets can get at the fountain.
- Care Free Enzymes Fountain Protector - This is a natural enzyme that will safely break down organic contaminate. It is non-toxic, biodegradable and 100% environmentally friendly. It is best to begin using right away so you don’t get the build up on your water fountains. You can also use this product to breakdown existing build up (though it will take time). Use weekly (liquid form), completely safe for wildlife and humans.
- Fountain Fresh Water Clarifier - Another option for keeping water fresh, this is a non-toxic clarifier that is great for fountains, ponds and waterfalls, indoors or out. Fountain Fresh will keep your fountain free of surface stains, green water and algae. It is in the powder form and is safe for humans, pets, birds, wildlife and plants.
- Fountain Block – This is a great algae product that is perfect for large fountains. One cube of Fountain Block algae controller treats up to 50 US gallons of water. It is hazardous if consumed so best to be used on larger waterfalls that are not around children or pets.
- No More White Scale – Whitel scale or calcium deposits form on water fountain surfaces when hard water evaporates. By changing partial water and using No More White Scale monthly you will not get these hard water stains (calcium deposits) in your water fountains. This fountain care product is safe for fish and ornamental plants.
