I stumbled upon the Koi solar water fountain while researching solar water features for a small garden, and the unusual blue colour immediate caught my eye. The Koi fish is a popular inhabitant in many garden ponds and in some cultures it’s associated with wealth and prosperity, besides making this outdoor water fountain look really eye catching and remarkable. The open ceramic bowl design also works great as a birdbath, attracting wildlife even in the middle of winter.

This blue Koi solar water fountain is only 6.5in high, and about 14in in diameter, with a wide and flat shell shape. The water comes from the fish and makes a pleasant sound as it flows into the basin, without spilling or splashing. Birds seem to like it a lot, probably because they don’t feel threatened by splashing water, and you may see the occasional four-legged animal taking a sip as well.

In terms of placement, this solar fountain comes with a 10 foot cord, which means you can place it almost anywhere in the garden, even on a shaded spot, as long as the solar panel can be placed somewhere in direct sunlight, even mounted on a wall or staked in the ground in a sunny location. The biggest drawback of this solar water fountain is that it doesn’t have a power storage unit, so it won’t work at night or when the sky is very cloudy. However, the moment there is some sun the Koi fish will start spiting water automatically, no need to turn it on or off.

If you want to accessorize your koi water fountain, you could add some light coloured rocks and glass around or inside it, or plants in matching colours to make it even more attractive for birds. The deep blue colour is unusual and easily seen on a garden, without looking out of place, and it has a similar style to modernist sculptures.

This fountain is made of glazed ceramic, and it’s quite lightweight so perfect for small patios or decks. It doesn’t require any unusual maintenance, just a quick wipe regularly to remove algae and white scale, and will withstand the elements easily though you may want to empty it to avoid freezing if it gets very cold. All in all, a really unusual and beautiful Koi fish solar water fountain that will relax you with the soft murmur of flowing water and look great in any space!
